Grandma Catherine used to score a holiday ham into a checkered pattern and pierced it all over with dried cloves. She would baste the ham with the juice from canned pineapple rings and sprinkled it with brown sugar and bake. She also covered the ham with pineapple rings and maraschino cherries in the centers securing them with toothpicks and finished baking until everything was glistening.
