2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (1 12-ounce package) chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional) (If you omit the nuts add 1 to 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour.)

Preheat oven to 375º.

In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Gradually beat in the flour mixture.

Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.

Drop by rounded tablespoons onto an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely
