Ingredients:
Ingredients:
6-8 brats
1 onion, sliced
2-3 bottles of beer (old beer is fine)

Directions:
Directions:
Put the brats in a large saucepan. Add the sliced onions and the beer, enough to cover the brats. Bring to a boil and cover. Boil about 10-12 minutes, to cook most of the way through. Transfer to a plate to cool, then put in a large plastic container to take to the beach.

Once the campfire has died down enough to have good coals but not jumping flames, put the brats on some type of grill. We've tried all types, from the grill from a Weber resting on logs to disposable aluminum trays with holes in them, to our current folding camp grill placed low to the coals. So far, that's worked best. Make sure it's level, though, so the brats don't roll. They're fully cooked, so just let them get good grill marks and absorb the campfire smell, about 5-7 minutes, turning often.

Personal Notes:
We love beach campfire cookouts! I've learned the hard way that brats need to be pre-cooked in order to be ready to eat when the rest of the food is ready. It's well worth the extra prep effort to do them most of the way in the kitchen.
