2 1/2 pounds venison
2 onions, chopped
1 garlic clove
1 tablsepoon steak sauce
3 tablsepoons olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
2 packages chili mix
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 18-ounce can tomato juice
2 cups applesauce
2 16-ounce can pinto beans with juice
1 tablespoon basil
1/2 teaspoon oregano

Directions:

  1. Brown venison, onions, garlic clove and olive oil in pot.

  2. Add steak sauce, chili mix, chili powder, tomato juice, basil and oregano and mix well.

  3. Cover and simmer 2 hrs over low heat. Stir occasionally from the bottom.

  4. Add applesauce and beans and mix well. Cook uncover until chili begins to thicken, about 1 hour.

I have browned meat, onions, garlic and oil in pan first. Then add other ingredients as directed in a crock pot.
