1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon milk or cream
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons oriental five spice
Zest of one orange
1 tablespoon shredded coconut
1 teaspoon coconut extract
1 teaspoon orange oil

Royal Icing
100 grams egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
700 grams powdered sugar
2 teaspoons extract or flavoring

Directions:
Directions:
Heat molasses, sugar, butter, and milk/cream until the sugar and butter melt.
Whisk flour, soda, salt, five spice, zest and coconut in a bowl. Add the molasses mixture to a mixer bowl and mix in the flour mixture a heaping spoonful at a time.
Add the coconut extract and orange oil. Mix until all of the flour is incorporated.

Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 350º.
Roll out, dusting with flour, to about 1/4-inch thick. Cut out with cookie cutters.

Bake for 5 to 7 minutes. Allow cookies to cool before decorating.
