Directions:In a large glass measuring cup (2-3 cup size), combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. Sprinkle some of the measured sugar on top of the yeast/water mixture to help activate the yeast. Invert the large mixing bowl you will use over the cup to retain the warmth.
When the yeast mixture doubles in size, pour it into a large mixing bowl. Add the remaining sugar, oil, eggs, and salt. Mix well. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to grease the top. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and divide it into 24 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a greased baking sheet or in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let the buns rise for another 30-45 minutes until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Right out of the oven, use a fork to hold a chunk of butter and rub it over the tops of the buns or melt the butter and brush a light coat on. |
