Bottom layer:
1½ cups boiling water
1½ cups brown sugar
Pudding:
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
1 cup coarse chopped dates
1 cup nuts chopped
1 heaping teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a 8x9 inch pan grease sides. Pour brown sugar and boiling water in baking pan, mixing until the brown sugar is dissolved. Mix all the rest of the ingredients together and pour over the hot water/brown sugar mixture in the baking pan. Do not stir together. Bake until light brown on top around 25 minutes. Cut into squares for serving. The syrup on the bottom of pan will serve as the topping. Serve with sweetened whipping cream.
