2¼ C chopped dates
1 C sugar
1 C water
1 C walnuts- chopped
2 C brown sugar
1 C butter
3 eggs
4 C flour- sifted
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Mix first 3 ingredients together in a saucepan. Cook over low heat about 10 minutes. Add chopped walnuts, stir and remove from heat. Allow mixture to cool and thicken some. In a bowl cream the brown sugar and butter. Add eggs. Beat well. Add flour, salt and baking soda. Mix well. Chill dough. Divide dough into 2 parts and roll each piece out until ¼" thick. Spread each roll with half of the filling and roll like a jelly roll. Cover and chill rolls overnight. Slice the rolls with a sharp knife and put slices on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until slightly brown. Remove cookies from cookie sheet to cooling rack.
