½ c. brown sugar
½ c. granulated sugar
1 c. shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 c. flour
1 c. oatmeal
½. tsp. salt

Frosting (if not using melted chocolate chips):
Powdered Sugar
Butter
Cocoa
Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add flour, salt and oatmeal. Spread in greased 9 x 13 pan. Bake in 350º oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool; spread with melted chocolate chips or make frosting of powdered sugar, butter, cocoa and vanilla. Sprinkle chopped pecans on top. Cut into bars or squares.

Ginger said she made her own icing. She usually added a little milk and instant coffee crystals to it.
