10 Jonathan or Roman Beauty apples
1 lemon, thinly sliced
½ cup sugar
1 to 1½ cups water

Directions:
Directions:
Put water and lemon slices on to boil. Peel and quarter apples. Put apples in boiling lemon water. Cook with lid on until apples are tender. Remove from fire and add sugar and stir to dissolve sugar. Put in large jar and store in refrigerator.

Grandmother had a large, square glass jar that she put her applesauce in. When we visited her in Dallas, she always had a fresh jar of applesauce made. We ate the applesauce over toast for breakfast. And, we fought over the candied lemon slices!
