4 to 5 large sweet potatoes, sliced
5 cups sugar
½ c. water
1½ Tbsp. butter

Directions:

Mix the sugar, water, and butter in large saucepan. Add the sliced, uncooked yams. Simmer slowly, uncovered for 1 hour until syrup boils down.

Mom usually slices her potatoes lengthwise into chunky "fries".

I add a little more butter. I still make this almost every Thanksgiving!
