Ingredients: 5 C flour 2 C sugar 1 tsp soda 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1 C butter 3 eggs 1/4 -1/2 C buttermilk 1 tsp vanilla

Directions: |
Directions:Sift flour with 1 cup sugar and next four ingredients. Cut in butter with pastry blender. Beat eggs slightly and add remaining sugar, buttermilk and vanilla. Add to flour to make a soft dough. It will be sticky. Divide dough into 2 circles.
Chill for at least 2 hours.
Roll out on floured surface to 1/4 inch. Cut with 2 or 3-inch cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with sugar before baking.
Bake on 375 degrees for 8-12 minutes.
OPTIONAL METHODS:
- Roll into 1 1/2-inch balls and roll in sugar. Flatten with a glass.
- Roll into 2-inch-thick logs and refrigerate until firm. Cut into 1/4-inch slices and sprinkle with sanding sugar |
