1 lb. lean ground beef
1 C yellow onion, diced
½ C real bacon bits
¼ C mayonnaise
¼ C ketchup
1 T mustard
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
2 tsp onion powder
12 slices bread
½ C butter

Directions:
In large skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat with dab of butter. Crumble beef well while cooking, then drain excess grease. Add onions, cooking a few more minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add bacon bits, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper and onion powder. Stir well. Spread 6 slices bread with ¼ cup melted butter, then cut each in half. Lay bread pieces, butter-side down, in greased 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle 2 cups cheese on top of bread. Spoon meat mixture evenly over top of cheese. Sprinkle remaining cheese over meat. Spread 6 slices bread with ¼ cup melted butter, then cut each in half. Lay bread pieces butter side up on top of casserole. Bake @ 400º, 20-24 minutes, until top of bread is golden brown.
