1 cup lard
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 & 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 tsp salt

Jan Smith's recipe is great too with the following variation: She uses oleo instead of lard. She uses 3 eggs. She starts with 3 cups flour and 1 tsp baking powder and 3/4 tsp. soda. & adds more 1 cup more flour if dough is too wet. She uses slivered or sliced almonds and no cinnamon.

In medium bowl, sift four with cinnamon, salt and soda.
In large mixer bowl, cream lard and add sugars. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Then mix in dry ingredients 1 cup at a time. Stir in nuts. Divide into two rolls. Wrap with wax paper or saran wrap and chill several hours or overnight. When ready to bake- preheat oven to 350º Slice and bake 7-10 minutes on parchment lined cookie sheets.


Jan Smiths directions are the same except she bakes at 375º
