Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Pudding
2 cups flour
½ cup butter
½ cup sugar
1 egg
¾ cup molasses
½ lb raisins
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bread soda
¼ cup warm water
2 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
½ tsp each ginger and cloves
½ cup warm water

White Sauce
1 cup fresh milk
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp butter
2 tsp sugar
2 tsb vanilla or 1 tsp lemon flavoring

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add molasses. Dissolve bread soda in ¼ cup of warm water. Add to mixture and stir. Add vanilla.

Combine flour, spices and baking powder. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately mixing in raisins. Add ½ cup of warm water. When all ingredients are mixed together, crack the egg over the mixture and roll in.

Place the pudding into a wet bag, leaving some space for expansion; tie tightly.

Place into boiling water to which ½ teaspoon salt has been added. An old plate placed under the pudding prevents sticking or burning. Boil for 2 hours over medium heat. Check frequently for water shortage; add boiling water, if necessary.

White Sauce:
Put milk into a small saucepan with salt. Add butter. Gradually bring to a boil over low heat. Add sugar and stir (avoid burning). Add vanilla or lemon flavoring. Add a small amount of thickening (flour or cornstarch) until the desired consistency is acquired. To keep warm, place over a double boiler.

Pour the white sauce over slices of pudding. Serve the pudding and white sauce warm.
