2 cups dried beans or 1 pkg great northern beans
ham bone
2 stalks celery
1 onion sliced
garlic clove
1½ cups cooked ham chunks
½ tsp dried thyme
bay leaf
salt
pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Put beans and 6 cups water in a soup pot. Bring to boil and cook for 2 minutes.
Remove from heat and cover pot. Let stand for1 hour before cooking.
Add soup bone, celery, onion, garlic, thyme and bay leave to soup pot.
Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, partially covered, for 3 - 4 hours or until the beans are soft.
Remove the ham bone and add the ham chunks to the soup.
Add pepper and let simmer .
