Ingredients: 1 C. butter 1/2 C. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 C. flour Apricot, seedless raspberry, or strawberry jam optional for thumbprint cookies 1/3 C. ground walnuts optional for crescents

Directions:Mix butter in mixer to soften. Add sugar, a little at a time. Add vanilla and flour. Mix well.
These may be made into spritz cookies or thumbprint cookies. For thumbprint cookies, roll dough into 1 inch balls, make a small indentation in center of cookies and place 2 inches apart on parchment lined baking sheet. Fill indentation with jam flavor of choice. For crescents, add the ground nuts then shape into crescents for baking. Chilling dough for 30 minutes before baking helps prevent spreading.
Bake in 350ºF oven for 10-20 minutes until lightly browned depending on size and shape of cookie. |

Notes: These cookies are a holiday tradition, although they are perfect for any occasion and any time of year. The cookies freeze well packaged in plastic wrap and foil then placed in freezer bags. For thumbprint cookies, place a piece of parchment paper between layers to prevent the jam from sticking to the bottom of the next cookie layer.
