3/4 c. shortening, soft
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
½ c. granulated sugar
1 egg
¼ c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. baking soda
3 c. oats uncooked

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening, sugar, egg, water and vanilla together until creamy. Sift flour, salt and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture. Blend well. Stir in oats. Drop by teaspoonful on greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 350º oven for 10 minutes.

For variety, add package of semi-sweet chocolate chips (what we do), nuts or raisins.
