Directions:Step 1) Squeeze the juice from an orange half, set the juice aside. Remove the membrane from inside of the orange shell and discard, cut and dice the shell. Put into a small saucepan with the water, bring to a boil and cook for 10-minutes. Drain and set aside. Step 2) Peel, quarter, and core the apple, chop into small pieces. Place in a saucepan. Sort cranberries, discarding any soft ones. Add cranberries to the apples, along with the reserved diced orange peel, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and cover partially. Simmer, gently stirring occasionally until the sauce has thickened, the apple is tender, and cranberries have burst, 10-15 minutes. Step 3) Transfer to a bowl and let cool before serving, or cover and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before serving. |

Notes: Johnny writes: Hope and I have been together for almost six years now, but I still remember the first Thanksgiving I spent at her parents' house, where I was introduced to a cranberry sauce unlike any other. Traditionally, I wasn't the biggest fan of cranberry sauce, but Hope's mom, Dawns' apple-orange cranberry version changed my mind with its unforgettable sweetness and freshness. While her dad is normally the main chef in the kitchen, this special recipe comes from Dawn, and has been a cherished highlight of their holiday dinners for years. Recognizing my love for it, Dawn now kindly makes extra of the recipe just for me, ensuring I can savor the leftovers long after the holiday. This thoughtful gesture has become one of my favorite traditions with Hope's family, making each holiday season even more meaningful and something to look forward to.
