2 cups sugar
2 cups warm water
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup butter
6 apples
2 cups enriched flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
To make sauce: Combine sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg; cook for 5 minutes and then add butter. Pare and core the apples. Then sift together flour, salt, and baking powder; cut in shortening. Add milk all at once. Stir just until flour is moistened. Roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut 5- inch squares. Place 1 apple on each square, and sprinkle generously with additional sugar and spices. Dot with butter, fold corners and pinch edges. Place 1 inch apart on a greased baking pan. Pour sauce over top. Bake in a moderately hot oven (375) for 35 minutes. Serve hot with ice cream. Makes 6.

*Can use premade pie crust instead of making dough squares.
