For the cake:
2 cups egg whites
2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup plus 5 TBSP cake flour
½ tsp salt
2 cups sugar
3 TBSP cocoa
For the frosting:
½ cup butter
⅓ cup buttermilk
¼ cup cocoa
½ tsp vanilla
powdered sugar

For the cake:
In a large bowl beat egg whites, cream of tartar and salt at medium speed until foamy. Add 1 cup sugar, 2 TBSP at a time, into the egg whites while beating. After last of sugar is in, beat on high until stiff. Fold in vanilla.
Sift together remain sugar, flour and cocoa. Fold into stiff egg whites in 3 parts, 25 whips for each addition.
Bake at 375º for 45 to 50 minutes.
Invert on a bottle to cool.
For the frosting:
Bring butter, cocoa and buttermilk to a boil. Add vanilla and enough powdered sugar to spread well.
