Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
1/2 bushel of 4"-5" pickling cucumbers (makes 20 quarts) scrubbed in cold water

Add to each jar:
⅛ t alum
2 cloves garlic (2 cloves does 1 peck, 1 peck makes 12 jars)
2 heads of dill
1 hot pepper (optional)

Brine: (makes enough to fill 8 quart jars of sliced pickles)
1 qt vinegar
1 c pickling salt
3 qt water

Directions:

Bring brine to boil. Fill each jar with above ingredients. Pour brine over sliced pickles and seal.

1½ recipe = 12 jars
make double recipe for 1/2 bushel
