6 c sifted flour
3 T baking powder
1½ c butter
3 c sugar
2¼ c milk
1 t vanilla
½ t lemon flavoring
1⅛ c egg whites (about 9 eggs)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, gradually add sugar & continue creaming until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl, alternate flour mixture with milk and flavorings, beginning and ending with flour. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour ⅔ batter into greased pan (10"x3") & rest into pan (3x2½). Bake 350º for 1 hour. Remove smaller cake, then reduce temp to 325º and bake larger cake about 30-45 minutes longer.

(This recipe is for 6" & 10" pans)
(Double this recipe for 14" pan - for this pan bake 325º for 1 hour, then reduce temp to 300º and bake 2 hours longer)

Mom was known for her delicious and moist cakes. She made all our birthday cakes growing up and I also remember some creative cakes at Easter and Christmas.
