3 or 4 Golden Delicious Apples
1/2 Cup of Shortening
1/2 Cup of Sugar
2 Eggs
1 Cup each of: Chopped Dates, Raisins, Prunes
1 1/2 Cups of Coarsely Chopped Walnuts
2 1/4 Cups of Flour
2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
Corn Syrup (Optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Wash, core, and pare apples. Grate enough to measure 2 cups.
Cream (mix) shortening and sugar.
Beat in eggs and grated apples.
Combine fruits and walnuts in a large bowl.
Toss with a mixture of flour, baking soda, salt, and spices until the fruits and nuts are coated with flour.
Stir in the apple mixture.
Pack into four (4) well-greased 3x5 loaf pans or 2 5x9 loaf pans.
Bake at 275º for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until cakes are done when tested.
Wrap well and store for two or three weeks in a cool place.
When ready to serve, glaze with corn syrup, if desired.
