1/2 cup sifted flour
1/8 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 cup softened butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease an 8 X 8 baking pan. Sift the flour with the baking powder and salt. In a medium bowl, at high speed, beat the butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until very light. Beat in melted chocolate and vanilla. At low speed, blend in flour mixture just until combined. Stir in nuts. Turn into prepared pan, spreading evenly. Bake 30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes. With a sharp knife, cut into squares. Let cool completely in pan. Makes 16.

I didn’t have the squares of chocolate on hand. I combined 6 Tbsp. cocoa powder and 2 Tbsp. canola oil. These brownies are very good, and I’ve made them more often than not!
