Cake
1 cup oats
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 1/3 cup flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Icing
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup cream or canned milk
1 cup coconut
6 Tbsp melted butter
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Pour water over oats
let stand 20 mins
cream together the sugars and shortening
add oat mixture and 2 eggs
mix well
add flour, cinnamon, soda and salt

While cake baked, mix the icing ingredients
when cake is done and still warm, put on topping
set under broiler for 2-3 minutes (watch closely)

This is the cake that Aviva and Rebecca made for Marilyn's 50th birthday as it is one of her favorite cakes - after several calls to Aunt Wendi and Grandma Doris (this is from her recipes) the cake was determined no good because they took it out before it was completely cooked and the next day was too late to continue to cook it.
