2½ cups sifted flour
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ cup shortening
7-8 Tablespoons ice water
6 medium tart apples
1½ cups sugar
1¾ Tablespoons oleo
1½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, salt into mixing bowl. Add shortening and cut with pastry blades until resembles corn meal. Add ice water and blend until dough holds together. Roll out to ⅛ inch thick on floured board. Cut into 6 to 7 inch squares. Peel and core apples, place on dough square. Mix ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together and fill each apple cavity. Dot each apple with a pad of butter. Moisten points of pastry square bringing opposite points up over apple overlapping and seal well. Place 2 inches apart in a 8x12 inch baking pan. Chill. Using water, the remaining sugar, butter and cinnamon bring to boil for 3 minutes. Pour around dumplings in baking pan. Bake at 500º for 5 minutes then reduce to 350º for 30 to 50 minutes. Serve warm.
