Directions:The First Christmas Night
T’was the very first Christmas, one night long ago the moon and the stars kept the night sky a glow. When all had been fed – the cattle and sheep – the shepherds lay down for a peaceful night’s sleep. They dreamed of their homes just down from the hill where their families and friends were sleeping and still. When all of sudden, they awoke with a fright for the sky was filled with the most heavenly light. There in the heavens shown a glorious star and it looked as if pointing to a town not far. They huddled together when they heard the glad sound and they looked toward the heavens and saw angels abound. They sang the praise of a new baby boy the Prince of peace and comfort and joy. “The Savior is born, our brother and friend. Peace on earth and good will to all men! Follow the star to a Bethlehem manger Hurry! Go welcome this new little stranger.” The sky became silent, no angels were found The shepherds were crying as they arose from the ground. Happiness filled their hearts once forlorn. “O Holy night! Our Savior is born!” They gathered their livestock, and looked to the sky to follow the star that had appeared that night. At the stable’s gate, they humbly bowed their heads to the small sleeping child in his soft little bed. Among them there stood both peasant and king Wise men and shepherds with presents to bring. The livestock stood round, both tame and wild, with Mary and Joseph admiring this child. T’was the first Christmas present, sent from above, that night we were given the gift of pure love.
