1/2 cup of sugar
2/3 cup of shortening
1 cup of molasses
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon of ginger
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 cup buttermilk or sweet milk
1 tablespoon vinegar
3 cups of flour

Directions:
Directions:
Add all ingredients except buttermilk, vinegar and flour. Then add buttermilk and vinegar together. Add flour alternately with buttermilk. Chill dough. Roll dough and cut cookies. Bake at 350º for 5 minutes on low rack in the oven and 5 minutes on top rack.
