Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of shortening
2 eggs
3 teaspoons of cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup of sour milk
2 1/2 cups of flour

Directions:
Directions:
Great Aunt Agnes never wrote down the directions but this is what I would do.
Sift flour, salt and baking soda together. Beat the rest of the ingredients together in a bowl. Gradually add the milk and dry ingredients to the bowl and beat together. Pour batter into two greased and floured cake tins and bake at 350º for about 30 minutes until cake tests done with a tooth pick.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Great Aunt Agnes had a big either coal or wood stove in her kitchen. You could never visit her in Pocono Pines unless she made you something to eat. She always had stewed chicken and waffles at the ready and some delicious dessert like this cake to share!
