Ingredients:
Ingredients:
4oz wholemeal flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons ground ginger
4oz oatmeal (or fine oats)
4oz brown sugar
100g black treacle
100g golden syrup
4oz butter
1 egg
4 fluid oz milk or use more milk and skip the egg

Directions:
Directions:
1. Grease and line a deep baking tin roughly 8 by 8 inches . This is really important as it does get stuck
2.Put flour, baking powder, ginger and oats into a large bowl and mix round well.
3.In a large pan gently heat sugar, treacle, golden syrup and butter until melted.
(It's tricky measuring treacle and syrup so it's roughly a quarter of the tin which you can tip quickly and then look to see how far down it's gone. It does not have to be exact).
4.Whisk egg and milk together (the egg does make it rise but it is not essential).
5. Add the milk and dry ingredients into the pan and mix round well.
6. Pour into the tin
7.Cook in a 180º oven for about 45 minutes or until firm on top.
8. Leave to cool in the tin then cut into squares.
