2 lean round (or sirloin) steaks (pound well until tenderized)
3 tbsp. butter
8 oz. mushrooms, thinly sliced
1 medium sweet onion, sliced
1 ½ tsp. minced garlic
½ cup beef or chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp. Dijon mustard (optional)
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce (optional)
½ tsp. salt (or to taste)
¼ tsp. cracked black pepper (or to taste)

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until it becomes frothy. Sear the well-pounded steaks (quickly) in the butter until browned. Remove.

Stir in onions and mushrooms. Sauté until onions and mushrooms are browned. Add garlic, and stir well.

Stir in broth, cream, Dijon, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.

Continue to stir periodically for 5 to 8 minutes until the liquid is reduced, thickened and creamy. Add salt and pepper if needed. Add the steak. Serve and top with additional cracked black pepper and parsley if desired!

Mom had a knack for picking out the best steaks - thick, juicy, and beautifully marbled. Sometimes she’d ask the butcher to run them through the tenderizer, to make them extra melt-in-your-mouth perfect. It was one of our all-time family favourites - especially Lil’s! We kids could hardly resist licking our plates clean.
