1 c. Shortening + 3 Tbsp.
2 c. Brown sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla
2 eggs
2 ¾ c. Flour
½ c. Cocoa
1 tsp salt
½ tsp. Baking soda
1 c. Finely chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, vanilla & brown sugar. Add eggs. Mix together flour and cocoa in another container & add salt & sod a. Mix together all ingredients and mix well. Add uts & mix again. Shape dough into 3 rolls about 2” in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper and chill for at least 2 hours. Cut about ¼ inch thick and bake at 375º for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 9 dozen.

I kept logs of these cookies in the fridge at the cottage. Whenever the family went out fishing in the evening, I would bake some of these cookies for their return. They could smell the baked cookies from the dock. They were therefore called “Fishing Cookies”.
