3 C. sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 C. white sugar
1/2 Tsp. salt
3 egg yolks
1 C. butter, softened
1 lemon zest
1-3/4 C. applesauce
1/2 Tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 Tsp. ground cloves

*I substitute the spices with apple pie spice

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
2. Grease a 9*9 baking pan.
3. Mix flour, sugar and salt together in a bowl.
4. Beat in egg yolks, butter and lemon zest until dough is thoroughly mixed.
5. In a separate bowl, mix applesauce, cinnamon and cloves together.
6. Press half the dough into the baking pan; spread applesauce mixture over dough in a layer. Top with remaining dough.
7. Bake in the preheated oven until cake is browned, 40-45 minutes.
