3 tbsp. extra light olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1/2 large green pepper (or 1 small) diced fine
1 large bay leaf
1 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1-1/2 pounds ground round
1 tbsp. tomato paste
1 26 oz. jar Aunt Millies' meat sauce
1 large can plum tomatoes, chopped
1 large can crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp sugar
Up to 1 (14 oz.) can chicken broth

In large dutch oven or saucepan with lid, add oil and heat. Cook onions, peppers, and garlic until soft. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Remove excess fat with large spoon. Add remaining ingredients, stir well and bring to a boil. Lower heat and allow to simmer 1-1/2 to 2 hours, stirring from time to time. As liquid boils away, replace with chicken broth and do not allow sauce to stick to bottom of pan. After 1-1/2 to 2 hours when mixture has reached proper sauce consistency, taste and adjust seasonings. Turn off heat, cover, and let stand for one hour. Remove bay leaf. Serve over pasta.
