1 1/2 cups poppy seeds
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 tablespoon lemon zest
1 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2/3 cup milk
4 teaspoons lemon juice
1/4 cup unsalted butter

Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup confectioner's sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
1 large egg

Filling:
1. Place the poppy seeds, almonds and lemon zest in a food processor and pulse until it resembles fine crumbs.
2. Place in a pot set to medium heat and add the sugar, nutmeg, milk, lemon juice and butter.
3. Stir often until the mixture comes to a boil and thickens.
4. Remove from the heat and cool completely.
Dough:
1. Place the flour, confectioner's sugar, baking powder and almonds in a food processor and pulse until fine.
2. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture is crumbly.
3. Add the egg and pulse until the mixture forms a dough.
4. Butter a 9x13-inch pan and spread half of the dough into the bottom of the pan.
5. Pour the poppy seed filling on top, then scatter the remaining dough on top.
6. Bake at 350F until the topping is browned, approx. 50-60 minutes.
7. Allow to cool in the pan, then cut into bars and if desired, dust with confectioner's sugar.
