5 apples
5 T sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
3 cups flour
2 ½ cups sugar
½ tsp salt
4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup orange juice
1 ½ tsp baking soda
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1 ½ cup powdered sugar
2 T softened butter or margarin
1 ½ tsp vanilla
1-2 T water

Grease a Bundt or tube pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel apples, core and slice thin. In bowl, toss 5 T sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon; set aside. In large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, eggs, vanilla, orange juice, baking soda and baking powder. With mixer, blend together on low speed for 1 minute. Increase speed to medium and blend 3 minutes. The batter will be very thick. Fill prepared pan by layering batter and sliced apples, beginning and ending with batter (three layers batter, two of apples). Bake 1 ½ to 1 ¾ hour or until cake tester comes out clean. Cool on rack 10 minutes, then invert cake and remove pan. Allow cake to cool on rack. Bake glaze by mixing powdered sugar, butter, vanilla and water until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cake.
