1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, separated
3 cups flour
3/4 tsp salt
3 T baking powder
1 cup milk
1 T vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening together until fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time. Sift dry ingredient together three times. Mix milk and vanilla. Add to the batter alternately with the dry ingredients. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. Grease and flour three 9 inch pans. Bake at 350 degreesfor 25 minutes.

This was a favorite of Grandpa Dodds. Gram always made it for him with Whipped Cream Frosting for his birthday.
