2/3 cup sugar
2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

Cake:

1 ¼ cups flour
1 cup sugar
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 tsp grated lemon peel
2/3 cup milk
¼ cup shortening
¼ tsp vanilla
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 8 inch square pan. Sprinkle with ½ cup sugar. Place cranberries over sugar. Sprinkle with remaining 1/3 cup sugar. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Combine all cake ingredients on medium speed for two minutes. Pour over fruit and bake, uncovered, for 40-50 minutes. Invert on plate.
