5 pounds potatoes
2 c milk
1 stick butter
2-3 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
salt and pepper to taste

Peel potatoes. This is optional - some people like mashed potatoes with peels left on.
Cut potatoes into quarters, at a minimum, and place them in the slow cooker. (Yes, this is not a misprint! Use the crockpot.)
Put in the stick of butter and chopped garlic cloves on top of the potatoes.
Pour milk over it all.
Cook on high for 4 hours.
Turn the crockpot to the warm setting and mash with a potato masher. Add more milk if needed.
Put the lid back on and keep warm until serving.

Love this method of cooking mashed potatoes. Doesn't heat up the kitchen and leaves the stove free for other items. Set it and forget it, and it comes out perfectly every time.
