Ingredients: |
Ingredients: ½ cup mayonnaise 4-6 tsp. stone-ground mustard, to taste (can sub spicy brown mustard if needed)
4 sandwich buns 2 TBS + 2 tsp butter, softened
1⅓ cup pulled pork, warmed 8 slices ham, warmed 12 dill pickle slices, large
cheese, optional
Tools pestle and mortal (if grinding your own mustard) whisk
|
Directions: |
Directions:In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise and mustard.
Toast sandwich buns and spread both sides with butter. Smear about 2 tablespoons of the mustard sauce on the top half of the bun.
Place ⅓ cup of the warm pulled pork on the bottom half of your bun. Top with 2 slices of ham. Place 3 pickle slices on top.
Squish the saucy half of the bun on top. Repeat with remaining ingredients to make 3 more sandwiches.
Note: You can also add cheese if you like. If you do, I recommend toasting the sandwich panini-style so the cheese melts. |

Notes: COCACABANA
The Tropicana was Ricky's nightclub in the hit TV series "I Love Lucy". The idea for the Tropicana was based on the Copacabana.
While you *might* think the Copacabana is a place in Cuba, since Ricky Ricardo (and the real actor, Desi Arnaz) was from Cuba. However, the Copacabana is located in the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The Copacabana is an idyllic curved beach sandwiched between mountains and sea. It isn't a place you'd go to be alone with nature, though! This beach-land is home to skyscrapers, cafes, theaters, restaurants, and night clubs. The place is hopping night and day!
Rio de Janeiro is considered a "beta global city". In other words, it is a big city! It is the 6th biggest city in the Americas. (And if you're curious what a "beta global city" is, it is a place with a medium-level economic status that connects to the worldwide market. Yeah, pretty confusing stuff! But then, economics never was my favorite subject!!!)
So, can you list any of the songs Ricky sang at the Tropicana?
Here are a few:
"Babalu"--traditional Latin-American song
"Cuban Pete"--traditional Latin-American song
"In Santiago, Chili"--traditional Latin-American song
"Straw Hat Song"--written by Desi Arnaz
"Lady in Red"--written by Desi Arnaz
"Friendship"--written by Desi Arnaz
"Jezebel"--written by Wayne Shanklin, 1951 popular song
"Lady of Spain"--written 1931, music by Tolchard Evans, lyrics by Erell Reaves
