1 c. milk
1 T. sugar
1 pkg. dry active yeast or equivalent
½ c. softened butter
½ c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
⅓ c. oil
6 eggs
6 c. bread flour
1 c. raisins
Directions:
Directions:
On stovetop or in microwave heat milk to lukewarm temperature and put in small bowl. Stir in 1 T. of sugar to dissolve, then sprinkle yeast on top and allow yeast to activate. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, salt and oil. Add eggs and mix on high for 2 minutes. Stir in yeast mixture by hand. Stir in 3 c. flour, one cup at a time, mixing well by hand. Sprinkle raisins on top and cover with 1 c. flour. Place in warm place to rise. When doubled in bulk, punch down and add remaining flour a little at a time (eventually you will have to work dough with hands) until dough no longer sticks to hands. Knead for 3-5 minutes. Divide and form into 2 loaves.

Place in greased loaf pans and allow to rise in warm place.

Bake at 350º for 40 - 50 minutes or until medium golden brown. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes then remove and cool completely on wire racks. Slice and enjoy with softened butter. Tastes great toasted too!

My Polish great grandmother served this with ham, hard boiled eggs, and kielbasa on Easter Sunday morning. She showed me how to make this when I was a teenager so that it could be carried down in the family.
