4 Tb. shortening
4 Tb. sugar
2 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
fat or oil for frying

Directions:
Soften the yeast in the water and stir to dissolve. Add the shortening, sugar, and salt.

Mix in enough flour to make a soft dough that is not sticky. Knead until smooth.

Spread oil on top of the dough. Cover. Set in a warm place until it doubles in size.

Cut off pieces of dough in roll-sized pieces. Roll each into a flattened shape and fry until golden brown (about 3 minutes each side if using a skillet).

Personal Notes:
This is a yummy and not very healthy(!) bread that I fondly remember from Alaska. We would make it in school when we were learning about Alaska Native history and culture.
