1 lb. hot Italian sausage
1 lb. mild Italian sausage
Oil
1 lb. ground beef
1 lg. onion, chopped
2 green peppers, chopped
3 - 6 oz. cans tomato paste
2 - 10¾ oz. cans tomato purée
2 lg. cans mushrooms, undrained
Water
1 tsp. sugar
Oregano, salt, pepper, garlic powder and parsley to taste
Cooked vermicelli or spaghetti

Cut Italian sausage into 2 to 3-inch pieces. In a large Dutch oven, brown sausage in oil. Remove sausage to a large plate covered with paper towels to drain. In same Dutch oven, brown ground beef, onion and green pepper in remaining oil and drippings. Drain well. Add tomato paste, tomato purée and mushrooms. Add water to desired consistency. Add sugar, oregano, salt, pepper, garlic powder and parsley. Return sausage to sauce. Simmer, covered, for several hours - the longer the better. Serve over hot cooked vermicelli or spaghetti.
