1 can (21oz) cherry pie filling
2 1/4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup cooking oil
1/4 cup vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom of greased 13x9 inch baking pan. In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, salt and baking soda. In another bowl, combine water, oil, vinegar and vanilla. Add liquid ingredients to flour mixture all at once. Stir just until moistened. Pour batter evenly over cherry pie filling. Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool 10 minutes in pan. Invert and cool.
