1 1/2 cups raisins (any kind)
4 1/4 cups masa harina (I used Maseca)
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon table salt
3/4 cups + 2 tablespoons canola oil (or corn, vegetable or other neutral-tasting oil)
3 cups warm water, plus more for soaking

Directions:

place raisins in microwave safe bowl and cover in water, microwave for 3 minutes
cover in foil and let sit for 10 minutes to rehydrate the raisins

in large bowl mix the masa harina, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon and salt

after all items are added together add the oil and mix together

add the 3 cups of water with the rehydrated raisins to the mix

will resemble slightly crumbly cookie dough and appear wetter than regular masa

following previous instructions use your tamale masa in your cooked and rinsed husks, fold and cook for one hour in steaming tamale pot.

**people have been known to add pecans, walnuts, cherry filling as well**
