Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. light Karo syrup
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Cook at low boil for about 6 minutes on medium high heat, stirring often. Watch carefully, it will get brown specks in it very quickly. Stir and pour into a buttered dish...an 8x8" pan for thick caramels.
Let cool and cut into strips. Then you can use scissors to cut into pieces and wrap in waxtex paper.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I tried lining my pan with waxtex paper and what a mess. It was very hard to pull the paper off of the caramels. Buttering the pan works better. I double this and use a 9x13" pan and increase the cooking time to about 10 minutes. I have a good friend who used to make caramels at Christmas time with real cream. These are almost as good.
