1 (8 oz. pkg.) cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. peppermint extract
9 cups confectioners’ sugar
¾ cups milk chocolate chips
¾ cups similar-sweet chocolate chips
3 T. shortening

Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and extract until smooth.. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating well. Shape 1-inch balls. Place on waxed paper lined baking sheets. Flatten into patties. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour or until chilled. In a microwave, melt chips and shortening stir until smooth. Cool slightly. Dip patties in melted chocolate; place on waxed paper lined trays until firm. Store in the refrigerator.

Walnuts can be added to some balls, if desired.

Candy can stay covered in the refrigerator overnight and can be dipped in chocolate in the morning.

Mix extract into the batter with clean hands.

2¼ cups of Ghirardelli chocolate can be used in place of chocolate chips.
