1 T. plus 1 cup butter (softened, divided)
1½ cups coarsely chopped pecans, toasted
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cu light corn syrup
¼ cup water
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Line a 13x9x2-inch pan with foil or parchment paper. If using foil butter the foil with 1 tablespoon of butter. Sprinkle with pecans and chocolate chips. Set aside. In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt the remaining butter. Add the brown sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil. Stir in the milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until a candy thermometer reads 248º (firm stage). Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan (DO NOT SCRAPE SAUCEPAN). Cool completely before cutting.

This is made like a pan of upside-down bars, you remove the candy from the pan after cooling. Peel off the foil or parchment paper and cut. The pecans and chips will be on top.
