Dissolve yeast and 1 t. sugar in warm water. After foamy, stir in milk, ¼ c. sugar, salt, egg, ½ c. butter, and 2 c. flour/ Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle. Turn out onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
